Victoria Domain, on the corner of Childers Road and Roebuck Road in Gisborne, was an aging infrastructure in much need of an upgrade. With the development backed by Trust Tairāwhiti, Civil Assist worked alongside Architects 44 to deliver a cutting-edge sport and recreation hub to the community of Gisborne.

Phase One focused on clearing outdated infrastructure and upgrading the existing netball and tennis courts to support a wider range of sports and activities. Netball courts were resurfaced with asphalt and Rebound Ace, while the tennis courts were resurfaced with Tiger Turf. Three multi-purpose courts were developed, providing additional space for netball, basketball, tennis, and pickleball. The dilapidated netball tower was pulled down and replaced with a temporary building.

Civil Assist was engaged across the full project lifecycle — from ground investigation (provided by Onsite) and detailed design, through to procurement support and construction monitoring. Our involvement focused on delivering reliable court performance and long‑term durability while maintaining clear cost certainty for the client. The outcome was a coordinated, buildable solution aligned with staging requirements and operational use of the wider domain.

The new and improved Victoria Domain is an essential public facility in Gisborne, fostering the abundance of young talent we have in here in Tairawhiti. It’s a place that brings people together and strengthens our community.
